I heard from some people who have been there say that it is not. Too homophobic. Could anyone who has been there please clarify to me if it is true or not?

A gay "mecca" no I would not put it that way. However I would say that the gay community is very wide range and their adverse reactions to it. It is more accepted around the city than in most parts of Mexico. I remember a few months back I saw about a gay march where thousands showed up, and it was peaceful. There are gay bars, and it is not uncommon to see a cross dresser on the streets. However where I use to live about 40 min. north of Monterrey. I was renting a home and down the street a gay couple moved in. They were very nice men but were very open about who they were. Some of the neighbors did not take to it too well, and ended up making their lives impossible to the point the gay couple had to move away. Now in Mexico City they are allowing gays to marry, so I would say it is more out there than in Monterrey.

Live in Monterrey and LOVE IT (not gay)
